The Building & Energy section of the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety has recently released Industry Bulletin 117: Improving Tie-Down of Timber Framed Sheet Metal Clad Roofs. The bulletin is to assist builders, building surveyors, designers, inspectors and other relevant stakeholders with technical guidance and improvement on tie-down compliance.
Our building surveyors have reviewed the bulletin and have noted the question and answer format provides helpful guidance to many misunderstandings when it comes to tie-down compliance, including the use of nail and strap connections. The bulletin should be read in conjunction with Industry Bulletin 93 – Documentation for timber roof construction and all relevant Australian Standards.
If you would like more information on tie-down compliance or if we can be of any further assistance please contact one of our building surveyors on 08 6209 4130.
